About Tenantry
The problem
Before you sign a lease, your landlord already knows almost everything about you — your job, your income, your credit history, sometimes even your past landlords. You, on the other hand, know almost nothing about them. No reviews. No references. No way to find out if they return deposits fairly, fix things when they break, or show up when something goes wrong — until you've already moved in, already paying rent, with nowhere easy to go.
That gap isn't small, and it isn't shrinking. Renter households have driven the overwhelming majority of U.S. household growth in recent years. Renting is now more affordable than buying a starter home in every one of the 50 largest U.S. metro areas. More people are renting, for longer, than at almost any point in recent history — which means the age-old imbalance of information between landlords and tenants matters more every year, not less.

Hi — I'm Caroline Condon, the person behind Tenantry.
Like a lot of renters, I've had landlord experiences I wouldn't wish on anyone — the kind where you don't find out what you've actually signed up for until you're already living it. When I talked to other people about it, I realized I wasn't the exception; almost everyone I knew had a story like mine. Back in college, I used a site called Rate My Professor to find out what I was actually walking into before I signed up for a class. It struck me that renting a home — one of the biggest financial commitments most people make, year after year — deserved that same basic courtesy.
So I built Tenantry: a place for renters to say, honestly and anonymously, what it's actually like to rent from a specific landlord — before you sign, not after.
What Tenantry stands for
- Renters come first. Every review is free to read, always. Tenantry will not charge you to find out what you need to know before signing a lease.
- Anonymous, on purpose. You can write and read reviews without your name ever being attached to them publicly — so you can be honest without fear of retaliation from a landlord you might still be renting from.
- Fair and factual.We ask reviewers to describe what actually happened, not just vent. It's more useful to the next renter, and it's simply the right way to hold someone accountable.
- Community-run. Every landlord on Tenantry is here because a real renter added them. This only works because people show up for each other.
Built for every renter
